Monet Eberhart is an early career intervention technical at Point Pleasant Resource Center in Anne Arundel County and the vice president of her local, the Secretaries and Assistants Association of Anne Arundel County.

Working with early childhood education students is a profound journey that intertwines passion, community impact, and personal inspiration. The foundation of this passion lies in recognizing the pivotal role early education plays in shaping future generations. It goes beyond the classroom; it’s a commitment to nurturing young minds, fostering curiosity, and laying the groundwork for a lifetime of learning. My role allows for a direct influence on addressing societal challenges. Early childhood education is a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of poverty, promoting equality, and fostering inclusivity.

By providing a strong educational foundation, regardless of socio-economic background, we contribute to dismantling barriers that hinder a child’s progress. This, in turn, helps build a more equitable and just community, where opportunities aren’t limited by circumstances at birth.

This profession inspires me daily. It’s not just about imparting knowledge but about cultivating a love for discovery and a hunger for understanding. The resilience and boundless curiosity of young minds fuel my own passion for continuous learning. The challenges inherent in the field are met with a deep sense of purpose, knowing that overcoming those challenges contributes to the holistic development of the children under my care.

Working in the community every day with community-based services and engaging with daycare centers and other places of learning has been a rewarding experience. It provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of young minds and foster a positive impact on the birth-to-5 community. Daily interactions offer valuable insights into the diverse needs of families and the importance of early childhood interventions for holistic growth. The joy derived from witnessing a child’s progress, no matter how small, is unparalleled. It serves as a constant reminder of the impact educators can have on shaping the future.

Being the vice president of my union has also been a profound learning experience, amplifying my passion for my job. It’s empowered me to understand the intricacies of labor relations and advocate more effectively for the rights and well-being of my fellow workers. I have found a lifelong passion being an advocate!
